Re “Harris’s Loss Could Haunt Biden’s Legacy as Critics Weigh His Choices” (news article, Nov. 8):
I fully agree with many Democrats’ characterization of President Biden as “a one-term president who set his party on a path to failure in 2024.”
Four years ago, Mr. Biden, then 77, promised that he would be a “bridge” to a new generation of Democratic leaders. He did not keep his word.
Instead, and despite his obvious frailties, Mr. Biden left the race for his second term only after his disastrous debate with Donald Trump. By waiting so long to drop out, Mr. Biden deprived Democratic voters and candidates of a competitive primary process that could have resulted in a stronger, battle-tested nominee.
Mr. Trump and his Republican allies in Congress have said that they intend to repeal Mr. Biden’s signature legislative accomplishments, which are many. If the Republicans succeed in that, Mr. Biden’s legacy will be as the president who put his ego over his party and his country and paved the way for the first election of a convicted criminal as president of the United States.
Joe Biden is the No. 1 reason that Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris.

To the Editor:
I am not a Donald Trump fan. I don’t hate him. I didn’t vote for him. I wholly respect the right of the 73 million Americans who favored him to vote as they did. The country will not go to pieces because they have done so. Nor has it lost its soul.
