Sergio Perez is hopeful he can reach an agreement with Red Bull over his future with the team after a "difficult" year. (More Motorsport News)

The Mexican signed a two-year contract extension with Red Bull in June after a strong start to the season, but he scored just 49 points in the last 18 races of the season.

In the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, Perez retired on the first lap after a collision with Valtteri Bottas, meaning he finished 285 points behind team-mate Max Verstappen, who won the world championship for a fourth consecutive year.

Red Bull failed to retain the constructors' championship, as McLaren won their first team title since 1998, in part due to Perez's dip in form in the latter half of the season.

"I think we know how difficult this year has been, so I think it's just a matter of discussing what's best for everyone going forwards. We'll see what happens," Perez said.

"At the moment, I've got a contract to drive next year, so it will be down to reaching an agreement, hopefully. See what the team wants to do."
