Re “Hamas Leader Who Planned Oct. 7 Is Dead” (front page, Oct. 18):
The killing of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, marks a critical moment for the Palestinian people. As of today, Gazans no longer live under the thumb of a brutal tyrant who denied them democracy and basic human rights while diverting international aid toward a relentless campaign of terror against Israel.
Now, Palestinians have a chance to determine their own future — to direct resources toward education, infrastructure and economic growth, rather than funneling them into a destructive and self-defeating war. They no longer need to live under leaders who compel them to live for the sole purpose of killing Israelis.
The world should support the Palestinian people in seizing this moment to build a future of hope and prosperity — a future defined by life, not death.

To the Editor:
Thank you to Israel for eliminating the arch-terrorist Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of the deadliest and most barbaric attack on Jews since the Holocaust.
Now Hamas and its allies need to immediately release the 101 remaining Israeli, American and other hostages and surrender, so that this war can end, the innocents can go home and Hamas can never repeat the horrors of Oct. 7, 2023.
